Planning Your Wedding Day Hair and Make Up

Written by The Powder Room on Friday, 06 August 2010

Planning your Wedding day is one day that you want everything to be absolutely perfect! You are marrying the man of your dreams and you want him to see you as the most beautiful goddess on the earth!…Ok enough of the romantics…

I think most brides really want to enhance their inner beauty….and that's where we come in!

Yes, we are the professionals and are fully equipped with the most up to date make up brands, such as Laura Mercer, Mac, Nars to name a few, hair styling tools and techniques, but really it's also about what makes you feel good.

Not having met you before means that we have a lot to chat about in your Pre Wedding trial.

Here are some little tips when planning your Wedding hair and make up trial.

  • When trying on your dream dress, try looking at the dress with your hair up and hair down, veil on and try different positions when you are considering your Wedding day hairstyle.
  • Are you going to be wearing hair accessories, fresh flowers (some flower are seasonal) or other jewellery. Consider the length of the earrings that you will be wearing, and the hairstyle shape around the front of your face. Leanne from Lila designs is wonderful at helping brides choose their Wedding day hair accessories.
  • Remember that a lot of photo's are taken from front on, so make sure you love how you look from a front view.
  • In choosing what to wear to your trial, choose a colour and neckline closest to your Wedding dress colour and shape, as strong colours can tend to effect the look of your finished make up.
  • Try where possible to get a hair and make up trial on the same day to see the total look.
  • Prepare your hair the day before the trial by shampooing twice and conditioning lightly, to ensure that your hair isn't too soft for an upstyle trial. However if your hair does tend to be oilier then freshly wash and dry on the morning of the trial. Please always feel free to call and discuss with a Powder Room stylist prior to the trial.
  • If you are someone that really loves make up and would like to show your make up artist how you wear your make up, you may like to come to the trial with your make up on to help communicate what your like.
  • Ask yourself not only what you like, but also what you don't like when pre planning looks.
  • Where possible try to bring magazine cuts outs of style choices to communicate the looks you may be considering. Collect a collage of hair and make up styles that may suit your dress style and shape. Choose hair style and make up looks that are similar to your hair, skin colour, face shape, style of Wedding etc.
  • Please let your stylist know if you have any sensitivities and what your skin care regime is (as for example if you are using MD Formulations some foundations may not adhere to your skin as well as others). Please also advise if you are on any medications that may effect your skin.
  • It's great to know colours of your bridesmaids dresses and flowers as well.

Last of all prepare to enjoy yourself, and let the pampering begin,we hope you are looking forward to a glass of bubbly and a little sweet indulgence from Cakes by Judy C. Make sure you have planned a special night out with your gorgeous man or your BFF's.
