Powder Tip 1
How Far in advance should I book my hair and make up?
If your wedding is on a Saturday in peak season (March-June; September – November) you will need to book at least 6- 9 months in advance. The Powder Room only books one wedding per stylist per day, as we want to make sure we can spoil you and your bridal party.
Powder Tip 2
How much time should I allow for my bridal hair and make up?
Depending on the hairstyle chosen, your wedding day hair and make up will take between 1.5 to 2 hours per person. It is helpful if you all are getting ready in the same location. At The Powder Room you have the option of coming to our intimate studio in New Farm. Please keep in mind that you will need to allow a little more time to travel back to your hotel or home.
Powder Tip 3
Now that I have booked The Powder Room, what's next?
For your pre Wedding day hair and make up wedding hair and make-up trial: Look for as many ideas of what you like and what you don’t. Would you like to looknatural, fresh, glamorous, exotic or sexy? Consider the looks of the famous: Audrey Hepburn, Beyonce, J-Lo, Katherine Heigl, Heidi Klum or Cate Blanchett. Please do your homework, the more our professional hair and make up artist knows about you and your wedding, the easier it will be to create your look.
Powder Tip 4
How do I know what to ask for so my wedding day hair and make up looks great in photos and I still look like myself?
The amount of make up you wear is personal, that's why a pre-wedding trial is so important. Remember that once your wedding day hair and make up are done and you are wearing your gorgeous dress and jewellery it will all look different. You may like to ask your artist about how to change the day look into a night look. During the day it should be fresher and in the evening you can add a little more bling. Try Jemma Kidd's Crushed Jewel Gel Liners. It's easy to do yourself!
Powder Tip 5
What's the secret to my wedding day make up looking fresh 10 hours later?
The Powder Room has a wellness philosophy to wedding day beauty. The better your skin is looked after the more it will glow, helping your foundation to last and look better. Drinking lots of water, eating well, and sleep all help. As under foundation primer and a pre-eye shadow paint ensures make up Is smudge proof and lasts throughout the day. Touch up is essential. Ask you Powder stylist for guidance at your pre-wedding day trial.
Powder Tip 6
What beauty items make a bride more irresistible?
Bat those lashes girl!! Give your eyes a little extra allure with individual lash extensions (shhh! No one will know!) For smooth, even skin that naturally glows all day try Airstocking, a spray-on silk stocking that can be used on the décolletage or legs to blend veins, bruises and skin pores. Reduce those fine lines: puffiness under eyes with our Md Formulations Wrinkle Filler and Deep Crease Relaxer or the Temps brighten and tighten eye serum.
Powder Tip 7
Are there any must have products I should carry with me?
The Powder Room's range Lips with Love lipstick/lipgloss is essential to touch up. Just think of all that kissing!! Other must-haves are Powder Room's Powder Me Perfect Compact, blotting papers to control shine, and an aromist to hydrate and freshen skin.
Powder Tip 8
How do I prepare my hair for my wedding day up style?
Your professional hairstylist will advise you on your trial day as to what is best for your hair, however, it is important that your hair isn't freshly shampooed if you want an up style. Freshly washed hair can tend to be too slippery and can be prone to fly-aways. You may like to wash the front part of your hair only if it is a little oily.
Powder Tip 9
When should I have waxing done before my wedding?
All facial waxing should be done no later than the start of the week prior to your wedding, however we would suggest lip waxing 2 weeks before as this is a more sensitive area.
Powder Tip 10
How can I reduce my under eye puffiness?
Brides are more prone to puffier eyes due to lack of sleep, dehydration, etc. A little tip if the day arrives and your eyes are a little puffy, follow the simple recipe to a miracle, compliments of Jacki Norrie, Wedding Tresses, thank you.
-
Boil (not microwave) enough water for 2 cups of tea
-
Pour boiling water over the tea bags (don't add the tea bags after the water)
-
Let the bags steep for a few minutes
-
Gently squeeze the bags of liquid and set on a plate
-
Place the plate in the freezer for 15 mins and enjoy a cup of tea while you wait
-
Lie down and place the tea bags over the puffy area, not on the eye lid
-
Relax...for about 15 minutes. Mmmm.
