Tips For Brides-To-Be
Powder Room Tip 1
"How Far in advance should I book my bridal hair and make up?"
If your wedding is on a Saturday in peak season (March-June; September – November) you will need to book The Powder Room at least 6- 9 months in advance. The Powder Room only books one wedding per stylist per day, as we want to make sure we can spoil you and your bridal party.
Powder Room Tip 2
"How much time should I allow for my bridal hair and make up? "
Depending on the hairstyle chosen, your wedding day hair and make up will take between 1.5 to 2 hours per person. It is helpful if the wedding party are all getting ready in the same location. With The Powder Room you have the option of coming to our intimate studio in New Farm, Brisbane. Please keep in mind that you will need to allow a little more time to travel back to your hotel or home.
Powder Room Tip 3
"Now that I have booked The Powder Room for my bridal hair and make up, what's next?"
For your pre-wedding day hair and make-up trial, look for as many ideas of what you like and what you don’t.
Ask yourself: Would you like to look natural, fresh, glamorous, exotic or sexy? Consider the looks of the beautiful and glamorous... Audrey Hepburn, Duchess of Cambridge (nee Kate Middleton) Beyonce, J-Lo, Katherine Heigl, Heidi Klum or Cate Blanchett. Please do your wedding beauty homework, the more The Powder Room professional hair and make up artists know about you and your wedding party, the easier it will be to create your look.
Powder Room Tip 4
"How do I know what to ask for so my wedding day hair and make up looks great in photos and I still look like myself?"
The amount of make up you wear on your wedding day is very personal, which is why the Powder Room pre-wedding hair and make up trial is so important. Remember that once your wedding day hair and bridal make up is done and you are wearing your gorgeous dress and jewellery (in the wedding day context) it will all look different. You may like to ask your Powder Room Hair and Make Up Artist about how to change the day look into a night look. During the day it should be fresher and in the evening you can add a little more bling. Try Jemma Kidd's Crushed Jewel Gel Liners. It's easy to do yourself!
Powder Room Tip 5
"What's the secret to my wedding day make up looking fresh 10 hours later?"
The Powder Room has a wellness philosophy to wedding day beauty. The more you nurture your skin prior to the big day, the more it will glow, helping your foundation to last and look better. Staying hydrated...practicing good sleep habits all combine to help you look your best.
Foundation primer and a pre-eye shadow paint ensure make up remains smudge-proof and lasts throughout the day and if needed into the night. Touch-ups are still essential, so ask your Powder Room Hair and Make Up Artist for make up longevity guidance at your pre-wedding day trial.
Powder Room Tip 6
"WhIch MUST-HAVE beauty items make a Queensland bride more irresistible?"
Bat those lashes girl!! Give your eyes a little extra allure with individual lash extensions (shhh! No one will know!)
For smooth, even skin that naturally glows all day, try Airstocking, a spray-on silk stocking that can be used on the décolletage or legs to blend veins, bruises and skin pores.
Reduce any fine lines and puffiness with MD Formulations or the Temps brighten and tighten eye serum.
Powder RoomTip 7
"Are there any must have products I should carry with me?"
The Powder Room's exclusive professional lip range "Lips with Love" lipstick/lipgloss are essential to touch up. Just think of all that kissing!! Other must-haves are The Powder Room's "Powder Me Perfect" Compact, Blotting Papers to control shine, and an aroma mist to hydrate and freshen skin throughout your wedding day.

Powder Room Tip 8
"How do I prepare my hair for my wedding day up style?"
Powder Room's professional hairstylists will advise you on your trial day as to which is best for your hair, however, it is important that your wedding day hair isn't freshly shampooed if you want a glamorous up-style. Freshly washed hair can tend to be too slippery and can be prone to fly-aways. You may like to wash the front part of your hair only if it is a little oily.
Powder Room Tip 9
"When should I have waxing done before my wedding?"
All bridal facial waxing should be done no later than the start of the week prior to your wedding, however we would suggest lip waxing 2 weeks before as this is a more sensitive area.
Powder Room Tip 10
"How can I reduce my under eye puffiness?"
Brides may be prone to puffier eyes due to lack of sleep, excitement dehydration, etc. A little tip if the day arrives and your eyes are a little puffy, follow this simple recipe to a miracle, compliments of Jacki Norrie, Wedding Tresses, thank you.
-
Boil (not microwave) enough water for 2 cups of tea
-
Pour boiling water over the tea bags (don't add the tea bags after the water)
-
Let the bags steep for a few minutes
-
Gently squeeze the bags of liquid and set on a plate
-
Place the plate in the freezer for 15 mins and enjoy a cup of tea while you wait
-
Lie down and place the tea bags over the puffy area, not on the eye lid
-
Relax...for about 15 minutes. Mmmm.
