Top Beauty Tips for the Autumn Winter Wedding

Crisp air, purple mountains and the opportunity to layer in lace are just some of the simple, romantic indulgences for the Autumn Bride.

But what about dry hair, windy days & static air? Is it even possible to have a perfect winter wedding sporting down waves & a vibrant glow?

Having a wedding that’s not in Summer is an equally beautiful & worthy wedding choice. A Summer wedding may evoke images of lush boho romance & balmy nights dancing in moon-lit courtyards, but an Autumn or Winter wedding is just as gorgeously imbued with a sense of wild, mysterious romance paired with radiant winter light. And Brides, let’s face it… it also means less blotting, longer-lasting makeup & less humidity-stricken curls… #winwin

Cool season weddings require totally different preparation to their Spring-Summer counterparts. Know that skin, hair & makeup will all react differently to cold conditions. You CAN ultimately have any look you choose, but it’s all in the preparation & getting it right that will permit this versatility.

In prepping for your winter wedding, the bottom line is #hydrate - inside, outside, hair AND skin. Hydrate in the morning, hydrate during the day and at night. Start in advance, be consistent & voilà! A flawless, winter bombshell bride.

But how, girl? Check out our top beauty tips for the Autumn-Winter Bride, featuring skin tips from our local Ella Bache New Farm...

HAIR

Add cool weather and… Hair is drier, more prone to static and frizz. Less humidity (curls can drop) & rain. Scalp needs extra attention & nourishment. Possible windy conditions, usually greatest around August.

How to manage… Hair & scalp need to be super hydrated. Brush scalp with a quality brush each time before washing to exfoliate & remove dead skin cells. Pay attention to ends when conditioning (don’t forget the scalp!). Use regular, deep reaching hydrating hair masks (ones with essential oils work the best & smell super good!). Start as early in advance as possible. Always handle wet hair with care.

Powder Bridal Tip… Autumn bridal hair is all about considering the natural texture of your hair. Soft, down waves can be perfect, but work best on layered hair with volume & bounce (note: hydration is absolutely crucial to pulling off a more summer-friendly look like this in winter!).

Also think about your wedding outfit - are you going to wear a fur stole or shrug/shawl, or a dress with a high-back containing buttons or embellishments? If so, avoid down styles & low up styles (especially low buns) that may rub - no Bride wants her bun to fall apart mid-ceremony or hair getting tangled during that First Dance… in this case, a winter braided updo would be perfect.

MAKEUP

Add cool weather and… certain foundations maybe be longer-lasting but the skin is drier - so achieving a flawless look relies on hydrated, well-nourished skin (skin undernourished can never look vibrant & often results in a flaky looking or patchy foundation, redness and a reduction in the life of your foundation… #umnotagoodlook).

How to manage… opt for an alcohol-free, liquid foundation that is less drying on the skin (ideally one that contains balancing & moisturising properties), or a tinted moisturiser with double the benefits. Swap mattifying foundations for more luminescent, dewy ones, which in cold conditions are more likely to last & less likely to turn oily (these are also kinder on the skin & won't accentuate or cling to any dry areas). Don’t forget to consider going a foundation shade or two lighter to suit (usually) less tanned, winter skin.

Powder Bridal Tip… Winter light is conducive to plenty of bling (diamond accessories anyone?). Sparkly or frosted eyeshadows (paired with an innocent pink lip) are the perfect choice of twinkle. Alternatively, why not indulge in a bold winter lip? Cool seasons beckon deep, seductive & dramatic colours & such lips are more likely to last the length.

SKIN

Add cool weather and… skin is generally drier & can become dehydrated easily, requiring greater nourishment & attention.

How to manage… Ella Bache New Farm says "prevention and protection is the key for all our clients throughout April as the seasons change, so does your skin.
